Martha’s Vineyard's great ponds have been a source of sustenance and beauty for countless generations of Islanders. Recently, many of these ponds appear to be at a tipping point, with algae blooms choking out shellfish, and cyanobacteria making the water unsafe for pets and humans.

Produced by Circuit Films in partnership with the Vineyard Conservation Society, Great Ponds is a three-part series documenting the health of these spectacular coastal ponds, and what our community is doing to help.

Episodes 1 and 2 have been completed, and you can watch both here. We are currently fundraising for the third episode.

In a world stripped of authentic human connection, a bereaved mother battles to save her grief-stricken husband from NeuraLife, a virtual platform indistinguishable from reality. Spanning virtual reality, reality and memory, Heartworm is about how we rebuild ourselves in the face of insurmountable grief, and the astonishing power we all carry within. The Arens’ storytelling captures both the fragility and strength of the human spirit in a visually striking and emotionally rich way.

Built on Stilts is a dynamic dance festival on Martha’s Vineyard, blending professional and amateur performances to create a unique cultural event. Co-founded by Abby Bender in 1997, the festival celebrates community-driven art and emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between live performance and its audiences.

Bender’s own work, often presented under the moniker Schmantze Theatre, is an unusual hybrid of movement, theater, and comedy. It is site-specific and intimate, even when performed by a large cast. Her productions are inextricably linked with text and song, employing monologue and object play alongside physical scores and dance. Both projects highlight Bender’s commitment to fostering artistic collaboration and accessibility within the island's cultural landscape.

The Vineyard Voices Tell Their Stories – Oral History Project encompasses ongoing collection and sharing of new interviews from the Vineyard community by oral historian Linsey Lee, and the publication of a fourth volume of her Vineyard Voices (VV4).

The project captures the essence of the diverse and vibrant place that we call Martha’s Vineyard through first-hand stories of its people–African Americans, Wampanoags, Portuguese, Cape Verdeans, Brazilians, New England Yankees, and others. The accounts are in the speaker’s own words, with the cadence and rhythms of speech intact. The themes are timeless–hardship, joy, natural beauty, the indomitable human spirit. These lyrical tales bring the past, and the present, alive, and teach us vital lessons for today.
